Door having a device for openable latching of the door

[Category : - MECHANICAL ENGINEERING]
[Viewed 472 times]

In 2010 we gained a major order for 84 evacuation doors for the Ådalsbanan’s newly constructed railway tunnels, by the Swedish Transport Administration. The safer evacuation doors, with their reinforced locking mechanisms, have been installed between Långsele and Sundsvall.

We have constructed an evacuation door (High Pressure Security Door, HPSD) with its own patented locking mechanism (High Pressure Security Lock, HPSL) which maintains the evacuation door in the closed position under extremely high pressure while, at the same time, it is possible to open it as required by means of a specially designed door handle.

In all longer railway and road tunnels there are a number of evacuation doors for saving lives in the event of a fire and/or accident. The evacuation doors are exposed to a very aggressive environment these days as well as very high pressure from trains and cars rushing past. The trains passing through these tunnels can weigh up to 1 400 tons and nowadays maintain a speed of up to 250 km/hr, imposing incredible demands on the evacuation doors of today and tomorrow.

Svetsbo AB’s evacuation door (HPSD), with the new patented locking mechanism, is manufactured from corrosion-protected and fire-resistant materials that withstand both high pressure and fire. lt is thoroughly reinforced in order to withstand the aggressive environment and the high pressure in railway and road tunnels and the panic locking bolt can be utilised with a single or multi-point locking device for evacuation, fire, smoke separation and pressure-exposed doors.

Since the locking mechanism consists of a minimal number of moving parts and is made from fire-resistant and corrosion-protected materials, it cannot jam. The evacuation door and the patented locking mechanism withstand the chemically aggressive environment that exists in railway and road tunnels and a pressure of 4000 Pascal more than 100 000 times. It has been tested and approved by the The Technical Research Institute of Sweden, SP.
