This invention is good news for the electric generating wind turbine industry as it cures the long lasting problems they are having with the gear boxes on their larger MW utility size turbines.
The invention consists of making the teeth in the gears entirely differently. The new innovative idea make the teeth 5 times stronger than the teeth in existing helical or spur gears.
The shape of these teeth lend themselves to easily be used in a planetary gear system as shown in the photograph.
Ordinary wear is substantialy reduced with this new idea so that the complete gear box can be guaranteed to the customer for the life of the turbine.
The weight of the new gear box should be about 50% of existing gear boxes. The cost will be much less as there are no gears to cut, harden, and grind.
Any well equipped machine shop can fabricate this new design.
Two planetary gear systems in series will sincrease the speed enough for a medium speed generator. .
