The cost involved in transporting bottled water to military personnel in combat areas, as well as to humanitarian aid operations worldwide are astronomical. Disposal of plastic bottles after their use is also enormously costly; in terms of the finances and logistics involved, as well as the impact on the environment. My hope is to help off-set these costs for the military and other U.S. aid organizations.

I have submitted and received a design patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office D616,525S, for an add on component I call the S.A.F.E. Box (Solar-Powered Aquatic Filtration Equipment). The patent design consists of a simple add-on component that retrofits the standard military water trailer that is readily available and widely in use. The S.A.F.E. Box has the potential to save over $20,000,000 per month on potable water for military and humanitarian aid operations worldwide. Additionally, use of the S.A.F.E. Box in lieu of bottled water will decrease the military’s ecological footprint.

As a former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant who served in combat during the Gulf War, and who trained soldiers for deployment to operation Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan, I know the importance of having access to quality potable drinking water at all times. If implemented, the S.A.F.E. Box will be a welcomed tool for our military men and women serving in remote areas around the world. The S.A.F.E. Box has the potential to save countless lives during worldwide humanitarian aid operations with both military and Non-Government Organizations (NGO’s) such as the Red Cross.

With its broad applications for military use, national emergency services, and humanitarian aid operations such as in Puerto Rico, I anticipate interest in the S.A.F.E. Box design from many sectors.
