[Category : - OTHER- HEALTH]
[Viewed 1208 times]

A disposable isolation/protective cover for a stethoscope comprising a bell, elongated connector body portion and two ear pieces wherein said isolation/protective cover is sealed on all sides except for the bottom permitting the stethoscope to be inserted therethrough; said cover material is made of acoustically transmitting and viral, bacterial and fluid impermeable material. A flap closes the stethoscope once inserted completely enclosing the stethoscope and preventing exposure of any kind.

Financial information

I am looking to license with royalties or another form of partnership. As described below, the cover will be used world-wide and will take its place in health facilities along side of gloves that are now used. The cover will replace plastic and/or other ways of trying to stop contamination at a significant lessor cost to manufacture saving millions of dollars to the health industry and facilities. The monies saved can be used in areas of the health industry where it is so badly needed. A sample can be provided upon request.
Contamination and transmission of infectious has become a critical issue in hospitals and clinics all over the world. Health care workers are asked to keep contamination and transmission from occurring by using clean or sterile precautions of their equipment and from patient to patient contact. However, contamination and transmission still occur.
I have designed (and hold a patent) on a stethoscope cover that guarantees to stop contamination from patients, the health care providers and clinics that see multiple people. As a nurse I have witnessed first hand how the contamination of a virus can be spread from one person to multiple people. Noone is spared from a virus that is not contained. For example one of my colleagues had her appendix out, a simple procedure, however developed MRSA (RSA is methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a type of staph bacteria that is resistant to many antibiotics...most common in healthcare facilities) and had to be kept in isolation for over a month. Another example is the Ebola (The West African Ebola virus epidemic (2013–2016) was the most widespread outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in history). Many more contaminants cause serious illness or even death, all of which could be avoided by stopping the contaminant by using barriers such as my disposable cover. Stethoscopes are an integral part of examining patients as they give the healthcare providers information about what is going on inside the body. Once the uncovered stethoscope touches the patient, whatever contaminant is on the patient or healthcare provider is then free to spread if precautions are not taken. An uncovered stethoscope then is used on the next patient and then the next and as soon as a patient leaves the room, the contaminant moves from one person to another.
The present invention is a single used cover that stops the transmission of contaminants from one person to another. It will save the Health Care Industry not only in dollars but also lives. The cost of the cover is pennies to make versus the dollars to make the plastic stethoscopes used in isolation wards today. Clinics and health care facilities as well as other health related fields world-wide will benefit from this cover.
