An apparatus for preventing buildings from flooding is described, which is composed of: a) a chamber (10) having side walls, an inner wall, and an upper opening; b) a cover (20) having a free end and an opposing end, joined to the chamber (10) by a hinge (22), said hinge (10) being adjacent to the building; c) a float (30) connected by means of a hinge (32) to the chamber (10). The aforementioned float (30) is placed below the cover (20); d) a sealing element (41) for attaching the cover (20) to the building.
