Abstract There is provided herein a navigational device for augmenting navigational instructions. The navigational device comprises a high intensity light source that points out/indicates navigational landmarks along a route in advance of the vehicle, such as signposts, offramps and the like such that the driver need not take eyes off the road. The navigational device may comprise a gimbal for the directional control of the high-intensity light source which may control the direction of the high intensity light source for various navigational waypoint instructions along a route. The navigational device may employ text recognition of various road signs so as to control the respective direction of the high-intensity light source.
