Integral Bypass Exhaust

[Category : - MECHANICAL ENGINEERING- Motors]
[Viewed 775 times]

An engine modification for which patents have been granted in all the significant manufacturing countries in the world. It relates to Hybrid Technology and centres on a modest engine modification which greatly improves the SFC of Range-Extender engines and IC engines generally – large and small, diesel or petrol.
The Internal combustion pressure at 10 degrees ATDC is 4200psi. As the crankshaft rotates and the piston descends to BDC (90 degrees ATDC), the combustion pressure has dropped to 600psi + the 500psi initial compression ratio. This represents a cylinder pressure of around 1000psi at the point of exhaust which, in all engines, is lost.
The significance of the Super Deltic Two Stage Exhaust System is that this source of high-energy power, is not lost. By employing a two stage exhaust system, engine manufacturers will be able to harness a high percentage of this high-energy gas to do additional mechanical work. It is not connected to turbo-charging.

Financial information

Two identical engines running side-by-side under identical loads is demonstrated. One engine incorporating the patented technology and the other simply running in its standard form. Measuring the Specific Fuel Consumption of both engines shows the engine incorporating the patented technology consumes 12% less fuel.
Besides this remarkable improvement in Brake-Specific Fuel Consumption, (BSFC), the principal benefit of owning or licencing this Patent is in enabling engine manufacturers to legitimately claim their product incorporates the most advanced step-change in engine technology since the introduction of Variable Valve Timing in 1980 by Alfa Romeo. This Integral Exhaust Bypass technology is significant and is certain to become the standard in the latest generation of high-tech IC engines in the future, especially with regards Hybrid EV developments.
The market potential can be quantified in a number of ways but by far the most significant element is the cost of not being able to incorporate this advanced engine modification into the latest engine version. It is believed engine manufacturers would be at a severe disadvantage striving to remain competitive and/or pursuing related R&D without first acquiring a licence for this new technology.
The world-wide patent holder, Hotchkiss Super Deltic Ltd, is offering usage Rights to engine manufacturers, exclusively or non-exclusively. Offers for the outright sale of the patent may be considered.
