PORTABLE SENSING SYSTEM FOR THE DETECTION OF FOOD FRESHNESS
[Category : - Food- Board games- Baseball]
[Viewed 963 times]
The present invention relates to a portable opto-electronic sensing system, which enable direct display of food freshness in real time within the system and alerts the users to take action before the consumption of contaminated food. Further, the present invention relates to a portable opto-electronic sensing system, which is integrated with carbon dioxide, colour and residual dissolved oxygen sensors for the real time detection of food spoilage. The system measures carbon-di-oxide to be emanated and residual dissolved oxygen presence from the food stuff by using sol-gel based sensing membrane. The amount of oxygen consumed and carbon-di-oxide released by the microbial growth during spoilage of the food stuff is monitored simultaneously and correlated with freshness of the food stuff. The system includes fluorescence and Non-Dispersive Infrared sensors for carbon-di-oxide measurement and microcontroller for calibration.
