CABLE CLAMP LOCK NUT WENCH

[Category : - Tools]
[Viewed 1839 times]

One of the most awkward jobs for an electrician is tightening and loosening the cable clamp lock nuts that are used to secure electrical cables or conduits on entry into and exit from electrical boxes such as small or large electrical panel boxes, service entry boxes, and junction boxes.

I HAVE A WORKING PROTOTYPE.

This Cable Clamp Lock Nut Wrench that should be a standard tool in every electrician's toolbox. Its design reveals several important features that allow the wrench to access lock nuts in awkward positions in electrical boxes of all types.. The wrench grabs the cable clamp lock nut at such an angle that the user can get a firm grip on the tangs of the lock nut and turn several degrees with force, before having to re-position the tool. The angel at which this wrench is able to operate in relation to lock nuts provides a revolutionary solution to the electrician's time-consuming job of tightening and loosening in hard to reach lock nuts in the box.

Typically, lock nuts securing cables or conduit are reached through a door or removable front panel. They are located at circular openings in the right, left, op or bottom edges of the box where cables enter the box. Nuts are especially hard to reach in the corners of boxes or on the back row of a box containing two or more rows of cables. In fact some nuts are left loose because they are to hard to reach. A lip around the front of the panel also increases the angle at which the nut has to be approached with the wrench. The most common method used for breaking loose or tightening cable clamp lock nuts is with a screwdriver and hammer. This is obviously is unsafe, especially since such work often must be performed with a live box.

There is no commercially successful lock nut wrench on the market that even closely matches this design. With 705,000 electricians employed in the United States and 757,000 projected to be employed by 2016 there is a solid and growing market for a tool that will make electrician's work easier, faster, safer and less frustrating.

This tool will be most helpful in commercial construction in which metal conduit and junction boxes are used throughout the structure.
